Ticket is a kind of query or problem posted by the customers to be solved either by your sales or support department. Following figure illustrates the user-department dependency to configure ticket.

Important NOTE: You can switch to Web based scenario or Service based scenario as following,
There are two scenarios:
1. Service based [Not available in Basic Version]
In service based, CRM system automatically downloads the department email(s) and then processes it immediately. You don’t need to logon to CRM Web interface to process the mail.
User of the CRM system can reply from their own email client e.g. Outlook Express etc.
2. Web based
In web based, you need to logon to CRM System.
